The National Park Service has hosted a memorial with Friends of Port Chicago and other groups since 1999. Today’s memorial included a program of history and remembrance at an indoor location close by to the National Memorial site along Suisun Bay at the still active U.S. Army pier on the Weapons Station in Concord, CA. Here are some photos of the day. Thank you to the staff of the National Park Service and the many volunteers for an exceptional program that gave the opportunity for an ever deepening understanding, yet not in any way taking away from the deep sorrow of the moment and our desire to honor in this special day of remembrance.
